I had the pleasure of knowing Tom for many years. First working for Tom in the early 70’s in the Youth Conservation Corp. Then as an athlete at Monroe Catholic Central when Tom helped our Track team. I was then humbled when Tom thought enough of me to give me the opportunity to coach at SMCC. As an athletic Director I always knew Tom had my back. His knowledge and leadership really helped me in those first years. My success as a coach is a true reflection of Toms leadership. I will always be grateful for his faith in me. We are sorry we will not be able to attend the memorial service but know that your family is in our prayers. Rest in peace my friend. Chuck and Janice Byron MCC and SMA 78.

Mr. Spas, you will be greatly missed. I was a cheerleader from 1981-1985. Mr. Spas was always our cheerleader ensuring we had great uniforms, pom poms, pep rally time and practice time which meant a lot to a young girl back then. He always had a smiling face and a genuine demeanor for everyone he met. I remember wondering if Mr. Spas ever went home. He always seemed to be around. I had no idea how far Mr. Spas’ reach went and I am confident every group and organization he was involved with was benefitted by his wisdom and quiet ways. What an amazing man. THANK YOU MR. SPAS FOR ALL YOU DID for MCC, SMA, and SMACC student-athletes. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

My thoughts and prayers are with Tom's family, colleagues and friends. I was given the opportunity to work along side Tom on the SMCC Athletic Board when my oldest children attended SMCC. I appreciated his sense of humor and welcoming heart. He will be missed.
