Please share a memory of Lucy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Lucy Viola Harvey was born in Middlesboro, Kentucky on June 24, 1948 to the union of Claud Harvey and Ella Hunley.  From the start Lucy was a force of nature and lived life on her own terms. Though she didn’t receive her education in the traditional way, she achieved her General Education Certification after attending Jefferson High School.

Lucy found employment in various ways, her most common position was as a Bartender at popular, local establishments like the Whistle Stop, Steve’s Tavern, and Nortel Lanes. Lucy had a strong sense of self-worth and an unwillingness to tolerate stupidity from men.  For much of her children’s formative years she was a single mother.  Being solely responsible for her children, she was fiercely dedicated to doing whatever was necessary to support them.

Lucy’s skill with a needle and thread earned her additional income as well.   She was an accomplished seamstress at Alterations Express in addition to performing work out of her own home. She also was employed by a local antique store operating concessions at the store’s auction events.

Feeling a strong connection to the ocean, Lucy enjoyed spending time in Florida. She found peace in the vast power and beauty of the sea, and it brought her comfort to watch the waves crash on the shore. Lucy loved her family immensely and cherished her role as mom, grandma, and great grandma.  She will be dearly missed by those she loved.
