barbara was my bestfriends great grandma, famously known as mimi. let me start by saying the love i seen between mimi and pipi is a love i dream of having. they were so blessed to have loved eachother for almost 70 years. mimi showed my bestfriend love and care that granddaughters need more than anything. she helped raise her into the amazing woman she is today. mimi had the most beautiful soul and i am so blessed to have known her for the years that i did. she touched so many people’s hearts and she will be unbelievably missed by everyone.

My Aunt Barbie has always been a force to be reckoned with. She exhibited strength, multi-talents, generosity, toughness, grace, and so much more. As I became an adult and a mother, she and I grew even closer. She gifted me the most gorgeous wedding cake, and continued spoiling me and my children with so many homemade treats and gifts. I remember going to her store once and being in so much awe of her, that she could open and run her own store while being a wife and mother! What an amazing example she has set for me throughout my life. Also being married to my amazing Uncle Louie for 65 years! Wow! These are just a few of my thoughts about my dear Aunt Barbie. I will love you and miss you always.

I will miss aunt Barb. Some of my best childhood memories are when I spent the night at her and uncle Louie's home. John and I always plotted for me to spend the night after being at Grams house for Thanksgiving and Christmas! Strawberries will always have a special place in my heart and remind me of her!

I have & will always cherish the memories I have of spending time with my grandmother when I was younger. Some of my favorite memories are of trick or treating in her neighborhood or gathering with the family at her house for Christmas.
I was always impressed with my grandmothers sewing pieces she’d create. When I was younger she made these blankets that folded up into pillows - which when you are a kid was mind blowing. :) I learned how to sew because of her and hoped one day I would have just a smidge of her talent.
Rest In Peace, Grandma - I love you!!

You gave me so many memories, holidays, dinners, adventures, but best of all the laughs!
I had the opportunity to get to know you and let you get to know me as an adult! When you’re a child you don’t fully appreciate your grandparents. When you’re a teen, you’re too busy making your own mistakes. But as an adult, when that nonsense is over, you get to cherish and build a relationship!
You set the bar for what lasting love should look like (and how to not kill your significant other for over 65 years!) Your love continuously evolving for each other, of course with your own spin on it. You’d stressfully threaten grandpa “I’m leaving your grandfather! I’m gonna go marry and cook for Vince Gill.”
“Food Is love.” We grew up with that being a family motto. You were always cooking up something, like the recipes you would have me print of the food network for you. I had an urge to call and tell you all about the new Tik Tok trending recipes . . . you know we would be making that “Chopped Italian Sandwich”!
We used to joke with her about putting her on Youtube. “Bitch’n with Barb” we said we’d call it. You always had something to say about whatever it was! But that’s what we loved. We used to play the game of who was on your “shit-list”! We would laugh . . . until you were on it! You were so angry with me for posting pictures of you on Facebook . . . But you loved the comments!
We were talking one holiday about things we slept with when we were younger: a doll, a blanket, and then, in the silence from kitchen chair you simply say, “Well I slept with your grandfather!” You were always the star of your own show!
In many ways you were the thread that helped keep this family together. Your recipes will keep your family well fed, the blankets you sewed will keep us all warm. And not a day that goes by we won’t see a strawberry and think of the infamous Barb’s Strawberry Fields.
I’m still at a loss for words. I always knew this day would come when I would have to say goodbye to you. Just as time went on it seemed to slip further and further away in my mind . . . you’ll always be there and in fact you will always be there with me!
I Love You Grandma - Jake

Q: What will you miss most about Barbara?
A: She’s going to haunt me for saying this. But what I miss most about Barbara are the wrinkles on her face. I’ll explain. Shes always made me laugh, always had something to say. But the more time I spent with her, I realized that those were soft lines… from years of joy. She was wise—in her own way—but so funny. I always seen those wrinkles and immediately felt joy. They weren’t from aging “ungracefully.” They were just a manifestation of the years of joy, not anger. Diligence.

My Mimi, Barbara Mary Salow, was a beautiful person inside and out. She was a fighter. She was kind, loving, understanding, patient (most of the time) and most of all a ray of sunshine to be around. Even though there would be times she wouldn’t be too happy, my Mimi never failed to make sure each and everyone in the family was loved. Granted she was truly happy in all of her days she had lived, my Mimi always had something to say and that’s what really made her one special woman.
There is nothing like a grandmothers love. In areas of my life where I didn’t feel loved, wanted or special, my Mimi always made sure to make me feel that I was. She was my great grandmother and a grandmother to me. She gave me the support I needed growing up and the love that a granddaughter needs and wants.
I can’t even explain how I’m feeling, all I know is I feel lost. I always thought she would live forever. I thought she would be there for my wedding day, or even if I ever had a kid and to watch them grow up, or get another blanket made by her and now it just feels unreal that she is gone. What I would do to have my Mimi make me a blanket and show off her amazing quilting skills.
My Mimi was my best friend. I was always at peace knowing that even if I didn’t see her always, she was still this beautiful person that touched everyone’s heart in someway. The love I got from her could never ever be replaced.
With the sadness that comes in this time, I remember everything great about my mimi. She gave me some of the greatest gifts a young woman could ever ask for and that could never be replaced. She fell in love with my Pipi, Louis Salow and eventually gave me some people who in their own way remind me of her, and having those people I know her memory will never die. My Mimi never was judge mental (at least not to me, that must be because I’m the first great granddaughter) and she always brought this comfort and peace when I was with her. I remember all the memories from when I was younger always coming to her house and looking at all of her collectible tins and falling in love with every piece of strawberry collectibles I found. I believe that’s why I started collecting strawberry shortcake collectibles years back, she was my inspiration. Also, going over to my Mimi and Pipi’s house, she always asked me if I wanted a Pepsi because it’s “real sugar”, decorating Christmas cookies around the season and my Mimi and Pipi calling me “Little Mack”. I remember her cooking, going to her house almost every holiday and it being fully decorated top to bottom because she likes Santa, and so much more that I will keep in my mind forever. I’m so thankful I was able to be around my great grandparents especially when I was younger, those memories I will cherish in my heart forever.
My piece of my heart is gone and I don’t know if I’ll ever be the same. Unless you have meet her, you never could never understand how special she was. Until I meet her again, I will keep Mrs. Barbie, my Mimi’s, memory alive. Forever and always. Until we meet again it’s Strawberry Fields Forever.

I first met Barb through her neighbor and my co-worker, Pat Knezevich when we went to Windsor to the casino Many trips with Barb and Pat followed! What an amazing lady! I instantly was impressed with Barb and her sewing and quilting skills. It was obvious as to how much she loved Louis and her family as she always beamed from ear to ear when talking about them. I have a lot of happy memories of Barb and will never forget the fun we had. My sincere condolences to the entire family. God bless all of you!
