Obituary of Susan Marz

Susan Ferris was born in Monroe, Michigan on July 8, 1954. She was one of five daughters born from the union of Joseph and Joan (Burrel) Ferris. She was educated  in the Airport Community School System.

Susan was an avid BINGO player. In fact, she could be found at the Knights of Columbus Hall every Wednesday night, as well as at the Monroe Veterans of Foreign Wars Post Hall on Friday nights.  In her younger years, she could be seen throwing darts at the local watering hole. Her family often chuckled at her because of her odd form. However, she held the last laugh when she consistently landed ringers.

Susan was very outgoing and she never missed an opportunity to attend local festivals, fairs, and carnival. She often belted out one of her two favorite tunes during karaoke. Whether singing “Delta Dawn” by Tanya Tucker or “Harper Valley PTA” by Jeannie C. Riley, Susan did not disappoint her audience.

Susan loved spoiling her grandchildren and doting on them just because she could. Whenever they visited she was sure to have something special for them. Susan loved the color red and roses. However, she never planted the flower, she really enjoyed its look and scent.  

Susan Lamira Marz, age 68 of Monroe passed away at 6:34am on Saturday; April 1, 2023 at ProMedica Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Monroe. Her passing was preceded by her parents; her husband: Virgil Kirby; a son-in-law: Shane Ball; a sister: Catherine Marler; and a beloved Chihuahua: Peanut.

To cherish her memory, she leaves three children: Jason (Erin) Roberts, Joan Ball, and Joseph Roberts; three sisters: Mary Grassley, Jo Louise Ferris, and Carol Prewitt; six grandchildren: Sean Ball, Skylar Ball, Austin Roberts, Jayden Paul, Ethan Roberts, and Eriella Roberts.

Friends may gather on Monday; April 10, 2023, from 3:00pm until 7:00pm at Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe; 2442 North Monroe Street, Monroe, Michigan 48162 (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of Her Life will take place at 7:00pm also at Merkle’s. Cremation has taken place through the on-site crematory, Covenant Cremation of Erie, Michigan.
