I have fond memories of my Uncle John. He told me many jokes and i always looked forward to our family get togethers we used to have. It was always a pleasure to see him and my Aunt Lois when i was out and about and ran into him. The picture video was perfect and brought back the best memories. I send my deepest condolences, prayers and strength to my cousins Cindy,Doug, and Bailey and to all that knew him. R.I.P. Uncle John

John wore many hats over the years. In addition to the other roles that he was known for, he was well-known around the county as a Master Composter. John and Gerald Bolog gave demonstrations on composting to hundreds of school children each year. He was also recognized by numerous people as "John the Winemaker" and he took great pride in sharing his homemade wine with others. Fellow mail carriers looked forward to annual postal conventions in which John would bring a case of his wine to gift to them.

Dear Miss Lois and family, I will never forget all the caring kindness Mr. John showed my Dad (and me). We would usually be the two home together when Mr. John came by on his mail route and he knew that when he had to a piece of mail to the door, Daddy would be sitting inside the screen- so he'd stop for a second just to say hello and let him know he wasn't forgotten. If he saw me out on Ann Arbor Rd. riding my bike, he'd caution me to watch out for the traffic.
He was one of the kindest men I ever knew.

Dear Lois, Cindy, Douglas and Bailey
I would usually give John a call once or twice each year on his birthday or on their wedding anniversary just to talk and learn how things were going. Lois may not remember but she and I have our birthdays on the same date.
Charlene and I are so very sorry to learn of John's passing. I enjoyed his positive attitude and quick wit.
Just some background information, I dreamed of John on his birthday this past birthday (on the 7th this month) and decided to give him a call on their anniversary today (03-26-2023) which would celebrate 68 years together. For some unknown reason to me, I decided to look on-line and found his obituary. Rest in peace John, I will miss our yearly talks.

Some photos are included here to show a few of the things John was proud of: his racing days with the Piston Pushers, being a mail carrier and winning a safe driver competition, and his service with the local Lions Club.

John told many, many jokes over the years. Occasionally they were off-color. Often they were goofy "Dad jokes." Sometimes they were quite clever and funny. He always wanted to share some humor and get a smile or laugh out of you. Even in the last month of his life, when the Hospice nurse came by to check on him and asked "John, how are you feeling?," he responded, "With my fingers!" It's just one more little thing we'll miss about him. Love you Dad! --Cindy

We were so sorry to learn of John's death. Kristen and I referred to him as the "candy man." We could always count on one of his mints when we had breakfast at McDonald's on Saturday mornings. He was a sweet, caring man who always inquired about how we were doing. So many people are going to miss him. Our deepest sympathy to his family.

My deepest sympathy to Lois, Cindy. Doug and Bailey on this so sad loss of John. He will always be remembered by this community and by me for his presence on Saturdays at the uptown weekly market with his canes and walking sticks and always some good conversation. May he rest in peace now. Sincerely, Theresa Dalton and family.

We send our love, support and condolences to the entire Eicoltz family. Out of my 5 Uncles, I was always closest to Uncle John! He always had a story, lesson, or advice to share. I have beautiful memories as a child: our yearly visits to Michigan from Florida. We always stopped at Uncle John and Aunt Lois’s house before heading to my grandpa Berlin’s house. Uncle John would always take my hand and show me his newest “invention,” car he was working on, or even just his beautiful garden of homegrown herbs and spices. Then, when I had my own children, we were so fortunate to have Uncle John and Aunt Lois visit us in Florida!!! I will never forget him taking my own two girls by the hand to share with them a new story, lesson, or new trinket he just happened to have in his pocket. He was so wise!! He gave my daughters each a $2 bill in which they will cherish forever. I will always remember Uncle John’s smile and amazing hugs. I love you Uncle John. Please take care of my mom in heaven.

John was such a positive spirit, a force of goodness so great on this earth that, when we gave him to the heavens, the universe became out of balance.
It will be up to us to put it back in balance, to make up for what we lost. We will have to be the kind words or handshake to a stranger. In the four decades that I've known him, I don't ever remember him being angry or hateful. Always kind. Always supportive.
It will be up to us to volunteer in our communities, to help the elderly and less fortunate, to bake and cook for others, to carve sticks to help people move and repair things that are broken.
To help teach us the small joys to behold in every moment, in every greeting. To tell the stories of the people we know and the history of the places we live.
Helping us see the beauty in every day by the simple things we appreciate and cherish to make our world feel full. To cherish it all.
We will have to be his gentle hands and kind words and do all the things he did to make this world a better place. Let's give him a reason to smile down on us from the heavens above and let's put the universe back in balance.
Peace be to John and the Eicholtz family.

John was our mailman in my younger days growing up. He would always stop to talk with us, if we were out by the box waiting for the mail. Good old days. I'll miss him. RIP John. Sending Hugs, love and prayers to Lois and his family.

Rest in Peace John. My favorite mailman while growing up in Dundee. He always made time for us kids and if we had any mechanical issues, he was always ready to teach us how to fix them. He and his entire family are in my prayers!
