Lonny Eugene O’Lone was born at home in Ida, Michigan on July 10, 1938. He was one of four children born to Raymond and Myrna (Hehl) O’Lone.  He attended Dundee High School where he met his future wife, Kay Waterstradt. The two were married on June 20, 1955, and were soon blessed with four children, three daughters and a son.

Lonny was an extraordinarily hard worker.  He was employed as a kiln operator at Dundee Cement for thirty years before retiring in the early 2000’s. He had also co-owned L & O Trucking alongside his business partner and best friend, Bob Lowe, for several years.

Lonny served the Dundee Community as a volunteer firefighter for thirty-four years. He earned the respect of his fellow firemen rising through the ranks.   He retired in 1990 as the Assistant Chief. Lonny also participated in many community events as an active member of the Dundee Recreation Commission. A talented golfer, he enjoyed hitting the links as often as he could. Lonny was also a great bowler. As a young boy, he worked as a pin setter at the bowling alley in Dundee. Lonny shared his love of athletics with his son as coach of his little league team.

The O’Lone family spent many summers enjoying their family cottage at Sand Lake in the Irish Hills. Lonny could often be seen enjoying his favorite beer, Milwaukee’s Best (the Beast). He played Solitaire for hours on end and kept up on current events by daily reading the newspaper. Lonny looked forward to lunch gatherings with his fellow DHS classmates to keep in touch.  Although he was known to be ornery at times, Lonny had a great sense of humor. A deeply caring, family man he was a wonderful father who adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
