Samuel Onan

Obituary of Samuel Allen Onan

Samuel Allen Onan was born on December 17, 1985 in Monroe.   He was the youngest of four children born from Brian Onan and Diane (Finzel) Onan.   Sam attended Holy Ghost Lutheran School graduating in 2000.   He furthered his education at Monroe High School where he was in the ROTC program and then received his diploma from Sturgis High School in Coldwater in 2005.

Sam married the former Mariah Felch on May 4, 2012.   A jack of many trades, Sam worked hard to care for his family.   He loved being outdoors and wrenching on cars.   He could fix anything he got his hands on, and for many years operated ON’R Automotive working as a mechanic.   Sam also worked alongside his father delivering water for the family business, Isaac Onan Water Hauling started by his grandfather.

Sam was loving, and energetic.   He was always on the go with a smile and a sarcastic quip to keep one on their toes.   He was quite the dare devil, but generous to a fault always willing to give the shirt off of his back to someone in need.   A natural leader, Sam enjoyed teaching and sharing his knowledge with others.   He enjoyed staying active by running and playing soccer.   He currently was serving as the Assistant Soccer Coach at Holy Ghost.   Sam also played on Men’s and Co-Ed Softball leagues in Maybee, had participated in several dart leagues, and was a gun fanatic.

Samuel Allen Onan, age 31 of Monroe passed away unexpectedly at Beaumont Hospital in Trenton on Sunday, October 15, 2017.   His passing was preceded by paternal grandparents:  Isaac Onan and Jean Onan and maternal grandparents:  Kenneth and Carolyn Finzel.

To cherish his memory, Sam leaves his wife: Mariah; four children: Landon Felch, Arianna Onan, Elias Onan and Brayden Onan; father: Brian Onan; mother: Diane Onan (Roger Riley); sister: Elizabeth Riley; brothers: Scott (Kallee) Onan and Eric Onan (Tori Johnson); cousin and best friend: Donavan Sheehan; friends: Larry Hyder and Shaun Sperr; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
