Marie Knab

Obituary of Marie Frieda Knab

Marie Frieda Bernhard was born on December 12, 1919 in Toledo, Ohio.   She was one of three children, but the only daughter born from the union of the late Henry Bernhard and the late Frieda (Schatz) Bernhard.   Marie attended Ida High School and graduated with the Class of 1937.   She would further her education by taking extension courses.

Marie married, Darwood " Pete" Knab on April 10, 1943 at Trinity Lutheran Church.   From their union came the birth of one son:  Dale.   For twenty-two years, Marie worked as a physician’s assistant in Dr. R.W.Wilkin’s Office.   In 1960, she proudly served as a Crew Leader for the United States Census.

After her marriage to Pete, she became an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church for many years.   Marie enjoyed regular church attendance and participated as a money counter for twenty-five years.   She was also a member of the Monroe Senior Center.

Marie enjoyed spending time with Pete and her family.  The couple liked to travel, and had spent countless hours ice fishing on Lake Erie.   With a profound love of animals there were often many pets in the Knab home.   In her free time, Marie somehow found time to enjoy quilting and crocheting.   Over the years her diligence led to her completing ninety-one afghans.

Marie Frieda Knab, age 97, of LaSalle, passed away at 5:05am on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at Wellspring Lutheran Services.   In addition to her parents, her passing was preceded by her husband of seventy-three years:  Darwood on August 27, 2016 and two brothers:  Henry and William Bernhard.

To cherish her memory, Marie leaves her son and daughter-in-law:  Dale and Andrea Knab of Ann Arbor; two grandchildren: Heidi Knab of Ann Arbor, and Jeffrey (Carrie) Knab of Texas.; one great granddaughter:  Isa Knab; and many nieces and nephews.
