Obituary of Lucy Delores Peer

Lucy Delores Peer was born on September 22, 1938 in Alexandria, Louisiana.  She was one of eight children born from the union of Samuel Airhart and Ethel (Roberts) Airhart. Lucy graduated from high school in Los Angeles, CA.

Lucy married the love of her life, Robert G. H. Peer, Jr. on April 27, 1957 in Los Angeles, CA. Earlier this year they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. From this union came the birth of four children: Cheri, Glenn, Earl, and Robert G.H. Peer III who died shortly after birth.

She worked as a custodian for 15 years at Jefferson High school before retiring in 1995. Lucy is remembered by her family as a loving mother and hard worker. Lucy particularly enjoyed having the family over every Sunday for dinner which became customary. She and her husband were life-long members of Swan Boat Club where they enjoyed the regattas on Lake Erie. Besides boating, Lucy also enjoyed fishing, bowling, gardening and crochet. In addition, she was an avid bingo player and liked visiting casinos. In recent years, Lucy and Robert spent the winter months in Florida, where she enjoyed the warm weather.

Lucy Delores Peer, age 78, of Newport, passed away at 12:39 a.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital surrounded by her husband and children. Her passing was preceded by her parents; her son: Robert G. H. Peer III; her brothers: Sylvester Airhart and Gene Airhart and her sister: Mary Thomas.

To cherish her memory, Lucy leaves her husband: Robert G. H. Peer Jr.; one daughter: Cheri M. Miller (Keith) of Fenton, MI; two sons: Glenn H. Peer Sr. (Rita) of Monroe and Earl J. Peer (Sandra) of Monroe; six grandchildren: Glenn Peer Jr, Danielle Peer, Ryan Richardville, Thaddeus Peer, Cody Miller, and Dalton Peer; and one great grandchild: Joseph Peer

Family and friends may gather from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street, Monroe (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of Life for Lucy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 26 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street, Monroe and a procession will follow to Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery.
