Obituary of Jack Edward Kirkland

Jack Edward Kirkland was born on December 23, 1930 in Lothair, Kentucky. He is one of three children born from the union of the late George N. Kirkland and the late Carrie (Denton) Kirkland. Jack was a 1949 graduate of Monroe High School.

Jack married the love is his life Jeannie Stirling on June 20, 1959 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Monroe where they became lifelong members. From this union would come the birth of two children.     He supported his family as a senior subrogation specialist at Motorist Mutual Insurance for thirty-five years, retiring in 1992.

Jack was generous and loved giving back to various programs such as the Bingo program at the Lutheran Home, Humane Society, Monroe Special Olympics and his church. He enjoyed socializing at Men’s Coffee at the church and playing cards at the Euchre Club in Frenchtown.  He had a passion for playing golf and was proud of his Hole in One Award Trophy in 2001.

As an avid family man, Jack cared for his wife and appreciated spending time with them, especially at the lake.

In his quiet time, Jack could be found watching the Detroit Tigers or reading the Monroe Evening News.

Jack Edward Kirkland, age 86 of Monroe passed away on Friday, May 19, 2017 at 6:28am at his home under the care of Great Lakes Caring Hospice. In addition to his parents and his beloved wife, his passing is preceded by his two brothers: William Kirkland and Robert Kirkland.

To cherish his memory, Jack leaves his two sons: Timothy M. (Michelle) Kirkland of Mount Gilead, Ohio and Jeffery A. (Iris) Kirkland of Riverside, California; two sisters-in-law: Joann Kirkland and Carol Kirkland; and one grandson: Jacob M Kirkland.

Friends may gather on Friday, May 26, 2017 from 9:00am until a Celebration of His Life at 12:00pm at Merkle Funeral Service; 2442 North Monroe Street (734)384-5185 with Pastor Evans C Bentley of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church  officiating. Procession will follow to Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle for burial.

Jack is blessed to have wonderful neighbors and family members who took time out to show their love by spending time with him and taking care of him.  Their support and love for Jack is greatly appreciated.
