Mary McCormick

Obituary of Mary Jean McCormick

Mary Jean Newby was born on Thursday May 18, 1950 in Monroe, Michigan.  She was one of ten children born from the union of the late William and the late Lela (Cupp) Newby. Mary attended Monroe High School, where she graduated with the class of 1970.

She helped to support her family through employment at various businesses in the Monroe area. Mary worked for Kmart for a number of years, Al’s Diner as a waitress where she met her husband, and Howard Ternes in Redford where she took retirement after nearly twenty years in 2012.

Mary was known to be quite the sweetheart; she was loving and kind to those that crossed her path. She loved her family and was proud of the family she raised. Mary loved nothing more than to spend time with her son and grandchildren with the occasional dining out with them. On any given evening, you would often find Mary sitting at home enjoying one of her favorite television shows or catching up with one of her many nieces and nephews.

Mary Jean McCormick, 66 years, of Monroe, passed away after a long battle with cancer on Saturday April 29, 2017 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her loving husband of thirty-five years: James "Jim" McCormick; and brothers: Edward Newby, Bobby Newby, and two infant brothers.

To cherish her memory, Mary leaves her son: Danny McCormick of Toledo, sisters: Betty Risden and Barbara (John) Murray of Monroe; brothers: Donald Ray Newby of Sylvania and her twin, Terry Dean (Carol) Newby of Toledo; grandchildren: Kaylan, Andre, and Roman; and many nieces and nephews.
