Obituary of Reed Dale Hunter

Reed Dale Hunter was born on November 22, 1929 in Toledo, Ohio. He was one of two children born from the union of Calvin Reed Hunter and Dorothy (Beardsley) Hunter. He enlisted in the United States Navy on November 24, 1950 serving during the Korean War. He obtained the rank of E3 Airman before his honorable discharge on August 26, 1954. He married Janet Travis on September 1, 1951. From this union came the birth of five children. Following his military service, Reed, was employed in several different capacities. He worked as a Millwright for Ford Motor Company in Monroe. He also had worked for General Mills, Bay Corrugated, and Guardian Glass before retiring in 1992. Janet passed away in 1993. Reed then married, Mildred Edith Ott, on February 5, 1994. Reed was very proud of achieving sobriety through AA. During his membership in AA he earned a thirty-four year coin. Always a jolly man he enjoyed playing Santa over the years for the Monroe Senior Citizens and the Salvation Army. He had a great sense of humor and loved to socialize with others. He was extremely knowledgeable about many subjects and his fun personality made him a joy to be around. Reed enjoyed playing cards at the Monroe Center and looked forward to his next lucky trip to the casino. He was a member of the Monroe Assembly of God for many years. Reed also looked forward to watching the Tigers play. At the age of 87 Reed Hunter of Monroe passed away at 4:52pm on Friday, April 14, 2017 at Medilodge of Monroe. His passing was preceded by both of his parents, both of his wives; and one sister: Beverly Ann Coyne. To cherish his memory, Reed leaves his children: Sharon (Craig) Weber of Geneseo, Illinois, Jeffery (Barbara) Hunter of Ashland City, Tennessee, Gregory Hunter of Monroe, Carol Richards of Rossville, Ohio and Pamela (Gerald) Bunge of Monroe; and eight grandchildren: Heather Coleman, Heidi (Casey) Cannon, Jonathon (Kimberly) Hunter, Marie Hunter, Daniel Hunter, Lindsey (Mike) Harrison, Bailey Ballmer, Kelsey (Tony) Ankenbrandt; and six great grandchildren.
