Obituary of Ada Ruth Hood

Ada Ruth (Smith) Hood was born on April 4, 1944 in Crawfordville, Georgia. She was one of four children born from the union of the late Ulice Smith and the late Ada Bell (Johnson) Smith. Ada attended Allegheny High School in Pennsylvania. She married the love of her life, Jacob B. Hood on August 12, 1963 at Pilgrim Baptist Church in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. From this union would come the birth of three beautiful children. She helped support her family as a cook employed at Orchard East Meals on Wheels for Senior Living. Ada had a bubbly, sweet spirit and a beautiful smile. She was kind to all she knew and would give to those in need. Ada kept to herself and never complained, especially when she was feeling under the weather. She loved to cook her family’s favorite meals, chicken and cornbread, stuffing, fried cabbage and sweet potato pie, but looked forward to being served at her favorite restaurant, Red Lobster. Most of all, Ada adored her grandbabies and each one had to be initiated with a bite on the cheek. She will be missed by many, but remembered when they hear the phrases, “How do you like them Apples,” or Okie Dokie.” In her quiet time, Ada could be found enjoying nature’s beauty gazing out her window or watching scary movies snuggled up with her Yorkie companion “Gotti.” Ada Ruth Hood, age 73, of Monroe passed away at 2:41pm on Thursday, April 7, 2017 University of Michigan Ann Arbor.
