Obituary of Flora Elizabeth Nisley

Flora Elizabeth Mainzinger was born in Monroe on July 28, 1933. She was the oldest of three children born from the union of Elmer A. and Thelma O. (Meyer) Mainzinger. She was a 1951 graduate of Monroe High School. Flora married Donald Nisley on June 6, 1953 at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, Monroe. From this union the couple would celebrate the birth of three children. For many years, Flora cared for the needs of her husband and children. She had a special bond to her husband, and during the Christmas Holiday rush went to work with him to help deliver the mail in a timely fashion. Later in life, Flora entered the workforce. She took employment with K-Mart in Monroe and for sixteen years she worked in retail sales retiring in 1998. Flora enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and spoiling them. She enjoyed sewing and was a talented seamstress. Flora had varied interests from Broadway to reading, often indulging in a good book for the pursuit of pleasure and knowledge. She was a past member of First United Methodist Church. While a resident of Mercy Nursing she enjoyed bingo and attending worship. Flora Elizabeth Nisley, age 83, of Monroe passed away peacefully at 8:10am, Palm Sunday, April 09, 2017 at Medilodge of Monroe. She had been under the care of ProMedica Monroe Hospice. Her passing was preceded by both of her parents; husband: Donald on January 3, 1972; daughter: Lori Nisley in September 2000; brother: Douglas Mainzinger in July of 2000; sister: Shirley Compora in August 2000; and grandson: Thad Turner. To cherish her memory, Flora leaves a beloved daughter: Joan Shores of Monroe; son: Donald (Shonda) Nisley of Monroe; brother-in-law: Jim Compora; sister-in-law: Shirley “Valerie” Mainzinger; three grandchildren: Timothy L. Shores (Jya Langley Plavin), Donald Nisley III, and Kim Rush; three great grandchildren including: Blue Boudrie Koffron and Leland Douglas Plavin Shores; special friend: Millie Hughes; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may gather from 2:00-8:00pm on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of Her Life will take place at 11:00am on Wednesday, April 12, also at Merkle’s with Pastor Daniel Potts officiating. Procession will follow to Roselawn for burial.
