Obituary of John Christopher Smith

John Christopher Smith was born on February 1, 1966 in Monroe. He was the son of George Smith and Frances C. (Knaggs) Smith. John attended Monroe Schools and graduated with the Class of 1984. John had an amazing heart and a passion for helping others. He worked for many years as a Caregiver for Home Instead Senior Care. He cared for his patients as if they were his own family and he was well-loved by all. In general, John was more than willing to help others in need. He played Santa Claus for many years at multiple locations including Cracker Barrel. He enjoyed crocheting and had used this talent to share needed items for the homeless. John also had enjoyed bowling and had played in various leagues and tournaments at Nortel Lanes over the years. John was an avid sports fan, but he was most passionate about his hometown teams the Lions and Tigers. He liked taking in a game or keeping up with his teams progress during the course of a season. He enjoyed singing and had been provided the opportunity to lead Karaoke at many local establishments. Family was always top on the list for activities for John. He loved the simple things like backyard bonfires, roughing it as a camper, or just sitting with those he loved. His niece Zoe was his pride and joy. John loved to visit Northern and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. He enjoyed the serenity these areas provided, picking up jerky from Sault Sainte Marie, and spending countless time at Houghton Lake. He loved music and had truly enjoyed the opportunity in the Summer of 2016 to see the Oakridge Boys in concert. For many years, John had made his home with Margaret Arno. The couple was united in an informal ceremony on February 28, 2017. John Christopher Smith, age 51, of Monroe, passed away on Sunday March 5, 2017 at ProMedica Ebeid Hospice Residence.
