Obituary of Maria Jimenez

Maria Hinojosa was born in Kingsville, Texas on February 18, 1928. She was one of seven children born from the marriage of Matias Hinojosa and Josephina (Guerrero) Hinojosa. She attended Kleberg County School in Kingsville. Maria married Jose Jimenez in 1947 and from this union came the birth of four children: Maria, Jose, Oscar, and Hector. Maria cared for the needs of her husband and children as a homemaker. For many years, she also assisted Jose with operating their popular establishment, “Blondie’s Bar”. The trendy bar and grill was located at I-94 and Central in Detroit, and offered great food in a fun atmosphere with live entertainment on weekends. Maria was extremely independent. She loved the company of others and always looked forward to socializing. She had quite the passion for gambling and often drove herself to the casinos or the local bingo hall. Maria received her spiritual nourishment as a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. In 2015, Maria moved to Monroe from Mexicantown. Even after making her home at Magnumcare she enjoyed attending the different social events and playing bingo. Maria Jimenez, age 89, of Monroe passed away at 6:14pm on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Magnumcare of Monroe. In addition to her parents her passing was preceded by a longtime companion and significant other: Vince; a daughter-in-law: Cynthia Jimenez; and three brothers: Matias Jr., Chancho, and Martin Hinojosa; and two sisters: Elena Vela and Maggie Alarcon. To cherish her memory she leaves a daughter: Maria (Orville) Johnson of Newport; three sons: Jose Jimenez Jr. of Farmington Hills, Michigan, Oscar Jimenez of Detroit, Hector Jimenez of Louisville, Kentucky; one brother: Humberta Hinojosa of Kingsville, Texas; five grandchildren: Jamie Johnson, Tina (Nick) Kannawin, Jessica (Greg) Russman, Jason Hatcher, and Justin (Tonia) Jimenez; eight great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and her former spouse: Jose whom she had been recently reunited with. A private memorial service has been planned. Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185 has been entrusted with her arrangements.
