Obituary of Georgia Marie Dafney

Georgia Marie Stephens was born on October 13, 1940 in Boyd Hill, Lafayette County, Arkansas. She was born from the union of the late George Stephens and Vernell (Jamison) Stephens. Georgia graduated from Wynn High School 1958. At an early age Georgia became a member of St. James Baptist Church. She would marry Curtis Dafney Sr. in 1958 and they moved to Monroe, Michigan. The couple would share in the birth of six children: Curtis Jr., Jackie, Rosie, Barbara, Tanika, and Davidle. She later received her licensed practical nursing certificate. Georgia loved caring for others and she spent more than thirty years in long-term care first at the Monroe Care Center and then transferring to Frenchtown Nursing Home. Her energy was remarkable and she always put other’s needs ahead of her own. Georgia was very supportive of all the neighborhood children. She seemed to be a mother to all, often taking them to the local drive-in. She stayed active as a cheerleader and dancer, enjoying a great game of baseball. She was known for her craftiness; enjoying sewing, knitting, and crocheting. Georgia Marie Dafney, age 76, of Monroe passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Medilodge of Monroe.
