Obituary of Charles Richard Leachman

Charles Richard Leachman was born on June 8, 1938 in North Terre Haute, Indiana. He was one of three children born from the union of the late Elliot Leachman and the late Mary (Bowers) Leachman. Charles was a 1956 graduate of Otter Creek High School and went on to Honorably serve as a member of the Air National Guard. Charles married the love of his life, the former Carol Flewelling on July 4, 1959 at First Presbyterian Church in Alpena, Michigan. From this union would come the birth of two beautiful children. Charles relocated his family to Monroe in 1969. As a hard worker, he supported his family with employment for more than forty years with Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 671. Charles was a God-Fearing Man and loved His Lord and Savior. He was a devoted member of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church for forty-six years serving in many capacities including Sunday School Director and Church Trustee. With an easy-going spirit, Charles was kind to all and never met a stranger. Always willing to help those in need, Charles had a great sense of humor and excitement for adventure. As a young man he enjoyed camping and was known for his spontaneous family trips. More than anything, family was most important to Charles and time spent with his grandchildren was cherished. In his quiet time, Charles could be found watching his favorite television show, “COPS,” doing word searches or spending time in personal reflection with the Lord reading His bible. Charles Richard Leachman, age 78, of Monroe passed away at 4:38pm on January 14, 2017 at Medilodge of Monroe surrounded by his loving family. His passing was preceded by his parents. To cherish his memory, he leaves his wife of fifty-seven years, Carol; two children: David (Dianna) Leachman and Lisa Leachman both of Monroe; two sisters: Mary Ellen Jarvis of Maine and Barbara Jean (Charles) Hill of Florida; and three grandchildren: Kyle Leachman, Maya Leachman and Leandra Osborn all of Monroe.
