Obituary of Anna Marie Hess

Anna Marie Hess, age 33 of LaSalle, MI, died unexpectedly Monday Nov. 28, 2016, at her residence. Born in Monroe, MI, at Mercy Memorial Monroe Hospital on September 28, 1983, she was the daughter of Clement & Sandra (Mentel) Hess. She is an honors graduate of Monroe High School’s Class of 2001. She continued her education at Monroe County Community College and Eastern Michigan University. She graduated from Eastern University in 2005, with a degree in Education, and a double major English and history; she was always on the Dean’s list. Anna started her teaching career in McDonough, GA, at Luella High School. After three years of employment in GA, she had an opportunity to move closer to her family, so she accepted a position teaching special education at Davison High School in Flint, MI, where she work for 4 years. Anna continued her education at Walden University receiving her master’s degree in Special Education. For the last three years Anna, has been employed at Monroe County Intermediate School District (MISD) as a Cross Categorical Teacher for Erie Mason Special Education. She was involved in many organizations such as the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life, Sigma Delta Tau, Rescue for Pets, and so much more. Anna was a lovely, energetic free-souled person, who always put others first. Anna loved the outdoors, camping, and kayaking. A gifted photographer, she took professional photos on the side for her growing business, Fancy Flamingo Photography. Musically talented, she taught herself how to play the piano. Anna didn’t mind being the center of attention. She always enjoyed a good thriller, as well as a trashy romance novel. Anna was opinionated, intelligent, determined, and focused on her goals. She enjoyed working at a Detroit Energy Theater concerts with her friend Sara and walking her dog Desi. Anna was a very passionate person who loved her nieces more than anything. She enjoyed spending many weekends with them. Anna was proceeded in death by her maternal Mimi & Pipi, Donald E Mentel & Donna J (Bordeau) Mentel. Her paternal Aunt Rose Marie Schindler (Hess). Anna is survived by her parents Clement & Sandra Hess;, a spoiled four-legged companion, her dog – Desdemona Hess; her paternal Grandparents Joseph & Maryann Hess (Burkey); siblings Shawna & Douglas Newsome (Hess), Joseph E. Hess; two lovely nieces that will miss her dearly - Emma Rose & AnnaBella Newsome; Uncle Bryan & Aunt JoAnn Spicer (Hess) & family; Uncle Richard Schindler & family; Uncle Douglas & Aunt Sonya Mentel & family; Aunt Vickie Clute & family and so many more friends and family. Friends may gather at Merkle Funeral Service, South (14567 South Dixie Highway Monroe, MI 48161) on Friday December 2, 2016 from 2-8pm and Saturday December 3rd, 2016 10am – 1pm. Funeral service will take place at 11:30am on Saturday with Deacon Mike Stewart of St. John the Baptist officiating with a prayer service to follow led by Sigma Delta Tau. An Honor Luncheon will take place afterward at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church. (3563 Heiss Rd, Monroe Mi 48162). Private burial will take place at a later date at St. Joseph Cemetery in Maybee, Mi. Anna loved the color pink for reasons including flamingos and breast cancer awareness, so we are encouraging friends and family to wear pink to the funeral home in honor of Anna.
