Obituary of David Albert Yinger

David Albert Yinger was born in Erie on November 16, 1936. He was one of two children born from the union of the late Delmar and Lorine (Burgard) Yinger. David attended Central Catholic High School in Toledo. He then served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. David married the love of his life the former Irene Knapp at St. Mary Parish on October 12, 1957. He was an extremely hard worker and proudly provided for his family. For more than thirty-four years he was employed at General Motors in Production and then as a Crane Operator retiring in 1991. While working at GM he simultaneously took care of his Erie Road farm. Even after retirement he continued working another ten years driving truck for Benore Trucking. David was a member of the Erie Knights of Columbus and often volunteered at the St. Joseph Church Festival. In 1996, David and Irene moved to Lake Havasu, Arizona where he joined the American Legion and the SASS; (Single Action Shooting Society) a group formed to promote the sport of cowboy action shooting. David was very likeable. He could be all business, but was outgoing with a quick wit making friends very easily. He stayed very active while living in Arizona riding four wheelers in the mountains, driving his jet ski on Lake Havasu, and enjoying riding his Harley Davidson. David Albert Yinger, age 79, passed away unexpectedly on October 31, 2016. His passing was preceded by his parents. To cherish his memory, David leaves his beloved wife of fifty-nine years: Irene; two sons: David (Lynda) Yinger of Riga Township, Michigan and John (Samantha) Yinger of Temperance; one sister: Norine (Monte) Jackson of Maybee; seven grandchildren: Corey David Yinger, Brooke Ann Yinger (Zach Chestnutwood), Dustin Tipping, John Richard David Yinger, Chad Michael Bomia, Brandon Nathaniel Bomia, and Alyssa Leigh (Andrew) Morey; and six great grandchildren. Friends may gather on Monday, November 7, 2016 from 2:00pm until 8:00pm at Merkle Funeral Service; South Monroe, 14567 South Dixie Highway (734) 241-7070. He will lie-in-state on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 from 10:00am until the Mass of the Resurrection at 11:00am at St. Mary Catholic Church, 127 North Monroe Street with Father Louis Lapeyre to officiate.
