Obituary of Jonathan "Jon" Lee Clawson

Jonathan Lee Clawson was born in Monroe on February 21, 1985. He was one of three sons born from the union of Phillip Clawson and Llenillyne “Penny” (Robertson) Clawson. Jon attended Mason High School and graduated with the Class of 2003. He would then attend classes at Monroe County Community College. Jon was a member of Grape Missionary Baptist Church. He was ordained July 20, 2008, was full of life and loved to share the gospel. Jon married Amanda Damazyn and from this union came the birth of two children. For the past two years, Jon was employed by Newmark Grubb Knight Frank (NGKF) as a maintenance supervisor at the GM Powertrain in Toledo. He had previously worked with his brother Nathan as an owner/operator of JNR Service performing logistics and unloading services for local companies. A devoted father to his two children, Jon took them with him whatever he was doing. They loved camping, starting out with a tent but quickly progressing to a camper. Jon loved to hunt deer, duck and geese with both bow and gun, with the assistance of his duck dog Tobias, better known as “Toby”. He enjoyed fishing, four wheeling, ATV rides, and painting cars. Jon was looking forward to sharing the rest of his life with his girlfriend: Ashley, and her son Jimmie. “Jon” Jonathan Lee Clawson, age 31 of Temperance, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, August 25, 2016 in the emergency room at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center. His passing was preceded by his grandparents. To cherish his memory, Jon leaves behind his parents: Phillip and Penny Clawson; his girlfriend: Ashley Gerken; his two children: Brookelyn “Laughing Waters” Hunter Clawson and Tanner Jonathan Clawson; two brothers: Nathaniel (Krystal) Clawson and Justin (Jenny) Clawson of Monroe; nieces and nephews: Makinlee Belle, Preston James, Kash Tucker and Kasen Slade; and a host of aunts and uncles. Friends may gather from 2:00-8:00pm on Sunday, August 28, 2016 and from 12:00-1:00pm on Monday, August 29, 2016 at Merkle Funeral Service, South Monroe; 14567 South Dixie Highway (734) 241-7070. A Celebration of His Life will take place at 1:00pm on Monday, August 29, 2016 also at Merkle’s. Pastor Bobby Smith of Grape Missionary Baptist Church will officiate. A procession will follow to Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle for burial.
