Obituary of Joan Antoinette Bawol

Joan Antoinette Bawol was born in Hamtramck, Michigan on November 26, 1932. She was the only daughter of the late Frank Mango and the late Mary King. Joan married the love of her life, the now late Thaddeus Walter Bawol, on, May 6, 1952 in Hamtramck, Michigan. Joan was a regular at church, she received her spiritual nourishment through Our Lady Queen of Apostles Catholic Church in Hamtramck. She was a hard worker, most recently working as a secretary for Mostek Paint and Glass in Hamtramck, finally retiring in 2009. Joan was a woman of strong values and loved her family more than anything. She was proud of her family heritage, and was an excellent cook of polish food. Joan spent much of her free time knitting, crafting, and watching Tigers baseball – rarely missing a game. She had a heart of gold and a drive to help others when in need. Joan Antoinette Bawol, age 83 previously of Hamtramck, passed away at 12:00 pm on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Ebeid Hospice Residence in Sylvania, Ohio. She was preceded by her loving husband: Thaddeus Bawol in 1982 and Companion: Steven Zechmeister in 1999. To cherish Joan’s memory, she leaves two daughters: Beverly Bawol of Monroe, and Darlene (Gary) Riling of Carleton; a granddaughter: Melissa (Zack) Clark of Perrysburg, Ohio; a great grandson: Zachary Clark; her extended family: Debbie (Danny) Zechmeister of Shelby Twp, Michael (Nancy) Tandeski of Armada, Michigan, Joseph (Theresa) Zechmeister of Roseville, Larry (Shelley) Zechmeister of St. Claire Shores, Stephanie (Andrew) Dryer of Brighton; and several grandchildren of the extended family. Friends may gather from 3:00-7:00pm on Tuesday August 16, at Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe 2442 N. Monroe St (734) 384-5185. A prayer service will follow at 7:00pm on Tuesday August 16, 2016 also at Merkle’s. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society.
