Skip Ewing, age 78, died Monday afternoon, September 17, 2007 at Regency Hospital in Sylvania after a brief illness. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Southern Michigan Services. Friends may gather from 3-8pm, Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at the Merkle Funeral Home. The Monroe Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1138 will conduct services at 7:00pm. He was born September 7, 1929 in New Castle, Ohio the son of Oscar and Orella (Swogger) Ewing. He married Hilda M. (Kehres) Littrell in December 1967. He served in the United States Marine Corps in Korea from 1950 until his honorable discharge in 1952. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1138. Skip enjoyed traveling. He and Hilda visited every state in the Union going to Alaska and Hawaii twice. Most of their trips involved a camper so that Skip could see the country. After retiring he discovered golf. Skip served as Marshall at Disney World golf tournaments. He had the opportunity while in this capacity to meet Tiger Woods. Skip and Hilda had made their home in Orlando, Florida for many years until moving to Norman Towers, Monroe in 2005. In addition to his wife: Hilda of Monroe; he is survived by a stepdaughter: Patricia Littrell and (Al Turner) of Monroe; a step granddaughter: Charlene Littrell and (Carl Atkins) of Phoneix, Arizonia; and step great granddaughters: Nicole and Zoey. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother: George; and a sister: Alfreda Carney. The family has requested in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to Shriner's Hospital.
